Craig grew up in Byron Bay, along the coastline of northern New South Wales, Australia. After his parents gave him a disposable waterproof camera when he was 5 years old, Craig was put on the path to his passion. While most kids his age were reading comics, Craig was immersing himself in early editions of National Geographic. When he turned 13, he spent all his savings on a 35mm SLR – a move that ultimately set the course for Craig’s future. Entirely self-taught, he worked hard at his craft before making a life-changing decision and becoming a full-time professional photographer in 2004 – a defining moment in his life. Today, Craig’s fine art photography showcases subjects in their natural habitat, connecting viewers to the environment. His images are an engaging, striking insight into planet Earth’s natural beauty.
I love the silence and the ability to capture images that are unique — and the challenges that comes with photographing whilst freediving is addictive. Obviously, photography is my passion, but my biggest motivation is connecting humanity back to the ocean through my imagery. So I could say my driving force is both the art of photography and the excitement I get from watching people’s emotions as they look at my work in my gallery.
I started photographing the ocean at the age of 7 when my parents took me to the Great Barrier Reef. This is where I fell in love with the ocean and its inhabitants.
I would have to say my father — he has supported me in every way. I have always been inspired by him.
I love traveling to remote places on Earth with friends and family. Surfing is a big part of my life as well.
I had been using Cressi equipment for most of my life because of its reliability and performance, so when the opportunity presented itself to be their Ambassador, I jumped at the chance. It’s an honor to represent this family-owned company, which I believe makes the best dive equipment on the market.
